The Truth: Why I'm Publishing Under My Maiden Name

When I got married at the age of 22, I was faced with the decision of how to approach my married name. My choices included hyphenating, changing, or keeping my original last name. Eventually, I came to the decision of taking my husband's last name. This decision was founded in the fact that - due to my age - I'd one day have been a DeStefano longer than I'd been a Uram. While this was hard for me to accept, because I adored my family and all they stood for, I loved the idea of physically showing my dedication to my amazing husband, Nick.

Yet, the sentimental part of me refused to erase Madison Uram from the world. As my first books - The Little Paragons, The Little Villains, and Lost in Lake Anthony - had been published under that name, I felt it was only fitting that I continue my writing career as the 13-year-old Madison believed in.

It was at that age that I first began journaling and reading daily. At some point, I grew frustrated with asking my parents for book money each week, so I began writing to pass the time. A few years later, I'd published The Little Paragons and decided that writing was my true passion.

Nearly a decade later, I'm working to rewrite that original series, and while it might be easy to slap my new last name on the finished product, I feel as if it would be a slight to the girl who original slaved over the plot.

So, with that thought in mind, I made the difficult decision that my books will never be published as Madison DeStefano. Not only is the name too long to bother slapping on a cover, but it's not true to who the original writer was when my career began.

Long story short, if you ever wish to find information about my upcoming novels, search my maiden name: Madison Uram.

Thanks for reading!

Until next time!
